EL DORADO TRADING CUP READY FOR UPCOMING GSSF MATCH

The Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation in commemoration of its 2nd Anniversary will be hosting its Anniversary Tier 1 Steel Challenge Match in June, 2016. The match which has once again been exclusively sponsored by El Dorado Trading is expected to be eagerly contested by all of the GSSF’s top steel challenge shooters.

During a simple sponsor cheque handover ceremony held at the headquarters of El Dorado Trading, in Young Street, Kingston, President of the GSSF, Ms. Vidushi Persaud, in accepting the kind sponsorship, conveyed thanks to both Misters Tamesh and Pavasky Jagmohan of the company and expressed her delight at the usual un-hesitating support El Dorado Trading continues to give towards building sport shooting in Guyana.

Managing Director of the company, Mr. Tamesh Jagmohan, reiterated his support to the Foundation and said he is happy to be a part of making this an annual match. He noted that as before this is a much anticipated handgun shooting event amongst both veteran and new pistol shooters alike.

One of the attractions of this particular competition is that the competitors shooting full power handguns in the Limited Division will be competing for the privilege of lifting the El Dorado Trading Steel Challenge Cup. The event challenges the shooters ability to focus on accuracy but speed is also equally balanced to come out with good scores.

Chair of the Steel Challenge Committee, Dr. Pravesh Harry noted that the El Dorado Trading Cup is a Challenge Trophy which will be on the prize table at this annual match held in the month of June to commemorate the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation’s anniversary. After every match the winner’s name together with the year will be inscribed on a plaque attached to the Cup.

In 2015 Ryan McKinnon emerged victorious and as such will have his name etched into the trophy as winner in that year. He will no doubt be seeking back to back wins and is one to watch out for in the 2016 event.

Flashback from 2015:

“After putting up a fleeting total time for all three stages in the match, which amounted to under a minute of actual shooting, match favourite and Guyana’s Top handgun shooter Ryan McKinnon left the range with more bragging rights as the first recipient of this prestigious Cup, after holding off a challenge from veteran shooter Joseph Chin who was in turn chased by GSSF’s President Ms. Vidushi Persaud who came in third place.”

The Match Committee reported that everything is all set for Saturday’s Match which will see shooters competing in two SCSA Divisions: Wildcat and Limited. The prizes up for grabs will be awarded to the top three overall in each division. Wildcat Division will have competitors using .32ACP and any other calibre lesser than a 9mm while those in the Limited Division will shoot 9mm or higher calibre hand guns according to the rules of the USA based, Steel Challenge Shooting Association.

As an affiliate of the Steel Challenge Shooting Association, a sister body of the United

States Practical Shooting Association, the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation has been organising matches following their strict safety policies. This simple, yet action-packed shooting sport attracts Guyanese pistol shooters from all around the country on a regular basis.

Steel Challenge Shooting is considered to be the fastest practical shooting competition in the world. The upcoming competition promises to be an exciting one which will consist of three (3) different stages where competitors will shoot at 5 individual steel targets per stage. Shooters will be scored using an electronic timing device, penalties of added time are applied for any misses after the designated stop plate is shot and the total time taken is the score: all while being closely monitored by the Foundation’s Range Safety Officers. The shooter with the lowest time to hit all the plates overall in the match will be declared the winner.
