G.S.S.F. hosts another successful Steel Challenge Shooting Competition sponsored by Jus’ Waters Inc.

Saturday 2nd April, 2016 marked yet another successful Steel Challenge match held by the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation which was sponsored by Jus Waters Inc. Shooters competed in the Limited Division (requiring the use of 9mm or higher caliber pistols). Trophies were up for grabs for the Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place Winners together with a special Trophy for the best performing and Highest Law Enforcement personnel.

The Match was declared open by Match Director Mr. Peter Hugh, who emphasized the need and priority for safe shooting practices. He subsequently introduced the Range Master for the match, Mr. Ryan McKinnon, who in turn briefed the competitors as to the rules for the set stages to be shot.

Shooting commenced on the Roundabout stage, followed by Showdown, and finally the most popular Smoke & Hope stage which consisted of the largest targets thereby allowing the shooters to really exercise their trigger fingers in the fastest display of the day.

In every stage competitors were required to shoot five different steel targets set out at various angles and distances, one of which is designated as a “stop plate” which is shot last. Registering a hit on the plate stops the time. The total time it takes to hit all five plates is used for the score (Your time is your score.) Misses and penalties add 3 seconds to the time for each. Scoring is done using a digital timer which records times according to shots fired. As shooters completed each stage, their score sheets were submitted to the Stats Officer Dr. Pravesh Harry, who computed scores using a specialised software. The competitor’s best four scores out of five strings of fire on each stage will then be added together for collective score. The lowest total time/score for all stages wins the overall match.

Shortly after the final shot was fired, scores were released to a highly anticipating group of eleven shooters. Match Director, Mr. Peter Hugh presented the awardees with their Trophies. 3rd place was snatched up by Mr. Shawn Smith, who displayed some impressive shooting after attaining a score of 79.43. Ms. Vidushi Persaud gladly stepped up to collect her 2nd place trophy with a score of 72.53, followed by the Foundation’s usual champion, Mr. Ryan McKinnon who copped 1st place with a commanding lead of 16 seconds over Ms. Persaud and a score of 56.75.
