Visitor statistics without cookies

To see which pages and documents are useful, this website keeps simple visitor statistics. We collect them ourselves, on our own server. There are no advertising or tracking services, no cookies and nothing stored in your browser for this purpose, and nothing is shared with or sold to anyone.

What is counted

• Which page was viewed, and when.
• The website you came from (only its name, for example "google.com" or "facebook.com"), and a campaign name if the link you followed had one.
• The type of device (computer, phone or tablet), the browser and the operating system, as general families such as "Chrome" or "Android".
• A rough screen size group, such as "phone size".
• Files downloaded from this site, and links you follow to other websites (for example an event registration form).

We do not record your IP address, your name, your exact browser details or anything you type.

No tracking across days

To count how many different people visited on a day, the server mixes your IP address and browser details with a random code that changes every day, and keeps only the scrambled result. The IP address itself is never stored, and the random code is deleted when the day ends. So we cannot tell whether you visited yesterday, and we cannot work out who you are.

Your choice

If your browser sends a "Do Not Track" or "Global Privacy Control" signal, your visits are not counted at all. Visits from search engine robots and from logged-in website editors are not counted either.

How long we keep it

The detailed records are deleted after 90 days. After that we keep only daily totals (for example "120 visitors read the news page on 3 March") for 25 months, so we can compare with the year before. Totals cannot be traced back to anyone.

Other things this website does

• The website sets one technical session cookie (and a security token) that the contact form needs to work safely. It is not used for statistics and expires after a short time.
• Messages sent through the contact form are delivered to us by email and not stored on the website.
• Some pages link to other websites, such as registration forms or social media. Those websites have their own privacy rules.
