Board of Directors 2016-2018

At the Annual General Meeting of the G.S.S.F. on Friday 5th February, 2016 at the Grand Coastal Hotel, Le Ressouvenir, East Coast Demerara, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport, Mr. Alfred King, served in the capacity of Returning Officer for the Elections for the new Board of Directors. Mr. Alfred King, officially released the following information after the democratic and transparent electoral process.

Vidushi Persaud

   

Ms. Vidushi Persaud is an Attorney-at-Law in private practice. Since she was called to the Guyana Bar in 2001, she joined her Family’s Law Firm of Persaud & Associates, Georgetown. She currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the National Commission on Disability, Member of Castellani’s House Management Committee, Member of the Guyana NRA, Member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association, Member of the Legal Practitioners Committee. Ms. Persaud is also a certified Level 1 Squash Coach and CASA Referee. In 2014 she received a National Sports Award for Female Sports Official/Personality of the Year for Guyana.

 

Vidushi enjoys the various sport shooting disciplines and has been shooting competitively since 2012. She laments the fact that sport shooting is stereotyped as something male oriented and her hope is to change the perception of the Guyanese public to understand a woman competitive shooter. In this regard, she created history in 2015 by emerging the Overall Year-end winner in Standard Division in I.P.S.C. Guyana's Match as the first female to accomplish this honour.

 

Ms. Persaud has been at the helm of the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation since its formation in 2014 and is encouraged by the strides made by the GSSF to bring sport shooting in Guyana to a whole new level. As President of the G.S.S.F. she is devoted to her mission to promote the goals and objectives of the GSSF and to encourage more women about firearm usage, safety and promote women's shooting interest and participation in the competitive shooting sports.

 
     
Mohamed Khan    

Mohamed S.G.F. Khan, an Attorney-at-law in private practice since 1996 and a Trained Mediator since 2002. In 2009, as a Chevening Scholar, he obtained a Masters Degree in International Conflict Analysis from the University of Kent (UK). He is a past president of both the Guyana Bar Association (2012-2013) and the Guyana Mediation Institute (2010-2011). He also served as Director on Board of the National Accreditation Council (Guyana) from 2012 to 2016.  Mohamed is married to Raihaana and is the father of 4 children. He has always enjoyed outdoor activities and sports and took naturally to the many disciplines of the GSSF. He hopes to make meaningful contributions to the advancement of the GSSF.

 
     
Steve Ninvalle    

Mr. Ninvalle is the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Department of Culture, Youth and Sport. He also served in the capacity of Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and, was a Member of Parliament during the ninth Parliament. Mr. Ninvalle is the president of the Guyana Amateur Boxing Association and a vice president of Alpha United Football Club, one of the leading football clubs in the Caribbean. He also has the distinction of being the first person from the English-speaking Caribbean to be elected to the Executive Committee of AIBA, the world governing body of Amateur Boxing. Mr. Ninvalle is a current member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association. He is dedicated towards promoting sport shooting in Guyana as the Secretary of the GSSF.

 
     
Peter Hugh    

Peter Hugh is an experienced Attorney-at-Law who has established his practice on South Road, Lacytown, Georgetown . Peter Hugh attended the Queens College High School before preceding the University of Guyana where he read for the Bachelors of Law. Upon completing the Bachelors of Law he proceeded to the Hugh Wooding Law School at the age of 19 where he was awarded the Legal Education Certificated which permitted his calling to the Bar in Guyana.

Peter Hugh was called to the Bar in 2004 and has since done primarily criminal matters. He has also done work for Justice Institute Guyana Inc. including training to assist Indigenous Guyanese in understanding how the Criminal Law system works. Peter Hugh also represented the Guyana police force in the 2012 Linden Commission of Inquiry. 

Mr. Hugh was regrettably declared retired from the position of Treasurer of the GSSF from September 2016 and replaced by Mr. Ray Beharry. The Board thanked Mr. Hugh for his past service in office of Treasurer and enjoys his continued involvement as a member of the Foundation.

 
     
Ryan McKinnon    

Mr. McKinnon is an avid outdoorsman and patriot who has a passion for promoting Guyana. He proudly speaks of the vast untouched biodiversity that the country possesses which stems from his experiences travelling to the depths of every administrative region. Growing up in central Georgetown in a single parent home he developed a respect for team work and many strong principles that today aid him in successfully managing his life and business career.

Mr. Ryan McKinnon is an active competitive shooter since 2006 (via Guyana N.R.A.) and has amassed a wealth of experience and prize winnings in the field of sport shooting both locally and internationally to date.  He has won several local handgun shooting competitions and is currently the defending champion for the all the major sponsored local handgun tournaments, inclusive of those involving law enforcement agencies. He is especially proud to expand on the comradery that sport shooting typically generates amongst competitors who usually hails from all walks of life and all regions of the world.  As such Mr. McKinnon strives to combine his logic, efficiency, tact and proficiency gained from his travels and experiences in order to continue promoting Guyana and regulated shooting sports.

He is certified by the IROA as a Level II Chief Range Officer, member and former hand-gun captain of the Guyana NRA, member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association.

 
     
Pravesh Harry    

Dr. Pravesh Harry BDS is a Dental Surgeon by profession. He is employed at Dr. Sengupta & Associates’ private Dental office in Queenstown. Dr. Harry is meticulous and passionate about his work. He has a strong sense of civic pride as demonstrated by voluntary community service and activities he chooses to provide his fellow Guyanese in Dental Outreach programs. As a firearms enthusiast for many years he brings the same professionalism and enthusiasm to the Guyana Sport Shooting Foundation where he is a director and founding member. Dr. Harry is a member of the United States Practical Shooting Association and the Steel Challenge Shooting Association.

 
     
David Dharry     

David Dharry is the Practical Shooting Chairman of the GSSF and brings to the Foundation years of experience in his field as an active competitive shooter locally and regionally. He is also a member of the Guyana NRA.

 
     
Nicholas Hing    

A graphic artist by profession, Nicholas Hing has been involved in the world of commercial/graphic art for over 25 years, beginning under Bernard Ramsay (Creative Advertising & Marketing), then with Vic Insanally (Guyenterprise Advertising Agency), and is currently employed at the Times Media Group as Group Creative Director.

Although he has been indirectly involved in the sports of Karate and hockey through his family, his involvement in archery was fully realized through involvement with the GSSF and its collaboration with World Archery.

 
     
Gerard Mekdeci    
Gerard Mekdeci a sport shooting enthusiast from a family of sport shooting enthusiasts. He began shooting trap and skeet in the United States at the age of thirteen and entered his first competition at the age of fourteen. In his late twenties he graduated to pistol shooting winning several trophies at the GNRA and Laurie Lewis invitational pistol competition. He has recently been elected to the board of the GSSF as chairman of the trap committee. His goal is to promote and advance trap and skeet shooting in Guyana so that the younger generation can enjoy the sport that his brought his family so much joy and camaraderie.  
     
Ray Beharry     

Ray Beharry was appointed Treasurer from September 2016. He is the Founder, Chairman and C.E.O of Trinity Resources Inc. After spending nearly a decade working as the Finance Manager for a group of Gold Mining entities he ventured on his own with a dream to be amongst Guyana's top producers. Over the last decade and counting Ray serves as a member on the Roman Catholic Finance Council. He also served as Treasurer of the Guyana National Rifle Association for two years. He lectured Quickbooks accounting part-time at Global Technology for a few years. Ray is currently 28 years old and believes success is dependent on the way we live our lives. He is Catholic and proud to profess his faith. 

 
     
Jagmohan Trevor Bassoo    

Trevor Bassoo is a management professional with over fifteen years experience in diverse industries. He is currently the Acting Marketing and Contracts Manager for CPL OPCO (GUYANA) INC., which is the franchise owner of the Guyana Amazon Warriors cricket team.

More substantively, Mr. Bassoo is the Marketing, Sales and Business Development Manager of NEW GPC INC., which is the largest pharmaceutical manufacturer in the Caribbean. Mr. Bassoo has held several management positions at NEW GPC INC. including IT Manager, Procurement and Inventory Control Manager and Marketing and Sales Manager. He was seconded to serve briefly as the General Manager for Global Group of Companies.

Other noticeable positions held by Trevor Bassoo include: Lecturer for Institute of Chartered Accountants of Guyana and Country Director for Education for Advancement.

Mr. Bassoo serves as his Group of Companies representative to the Private Sector Commission. He also serves as NEW GPC’s representative to the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry for which he is an elected member on the Board of Councilors.

Mr. Bassoo is also the holder of a Taekwondo black belt and volunteered as an Instructor and Treasurer with the Guyana Taekwondo Association. He is also qualified in more than three differing fields, namely Computer Science, Accounting, Marketing and Business Management.

Mr. Bassoo was elected as the Director/Internal Auditor for the Guyana Sports Shooting Foundation and vows to serve the Foundation and its members with integrity while working diligently to promote and develop safe sports shooting in Guyana.
